Centers for Diversity & Inclusion

The Centers for Diversity and Inclusion collaborates with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to promote a diverse, welcoming campus environment and foster a climate of success for underrepresented students, staff, and faculty. We promote meaningful learning and dialogue around issues of diversity, inclusion, and social justice through educational programming and advocacy.

Programming Goals:

  1. To be a visible campus presence that models collaboration, inclusion, and community;
  2. To provide resources for and develop community among students, staff, and faculty from historically underrepresented identities;
  3. To encourage programming that connects students to local resources and communities; and
  4. To develop education and programs that enhance cultural competencies, cross-cultural perspectives, and an understanding of issues related to social justice.

The Centers for Diversity and Inclusion are comprised of the Center for Women and Gender, the Stonewall Center, the Rise Up Center, and the Pa'lante Center. The centers are located on the lower level of Frost Hall.

Diversity & Inclusion

Since its founding, diversity and inclusion have been an integral component of LC’s mission. Our diversity efforts strive to foster and celebrate diversity while promoting inclusiveness within our campus community. By exposing the campus community to a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, we work to create an environment that reflects and embraces the diversity of our society.

As a community and a college, we value diversity in all its forms. We recognize and embrace the many differences that make us who we are.

We also know that we are on a journey. We recognize that there is more we can do to foster a welcoming and collaborative community for everyone. Landmark College’s (LC) commitment to diversity and inclusion has never been stronger.

How We Define Diversity

Diversity encompasses the many intersecting identities found within our campus and the broader community, including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, nationality, socio-economic class, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, ability, neurodiversity, religious affiliation, political viewpoints, as well as first-generation college students. While the language and definitions of diversity are dynamic and ever-changing, diversity enhances learning by challenging us to regularly discuss and understand experiences, values, and ideas different from our own.

Our Vision of Diversity

LC recognizes the multiple identities, histories, and experiences of the individuals that make up our campus community and society at large. We encourage the meaningful learning that occurs when individuals and groups transcend boundaries to engage with those whose perspectives differ from their own.

Founded on the belief that differences in learning styles should be celebrated, LC created a community where such differences are the norm, not the exception. Today that belief has grown to include diversity in all of its many forms. Constantly learning and growing, LC purposefully engages students, faculty, and staff in an ongoing dialogue around diversity. We recognize that purposeful engagement around issues of social justice and diversity is challenging, and often there are no easy answers, but we are committed to the process.

Our goal is to foster a culture that celebrates differences and challenges stereotypes and hidden assumptions; engages in meaningful discussions around power, privilege, and oppression; and creates a community built on respect and support. We demonstrate our commitment to historically underrepresented groups and diversity in all aspects of campus life and embolden our community to create an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and socially just campus environment.
